The day of celebration and remembrance is celebrated since 1986 on the third Monday in January and therefore falls on King’s birthday on January 15 this year. Since 2021, “Juneteenth” has also commemorated the abolition of slavery in Texas on 19 June 1865. There is no national holiday in honor of the indigenous people.
