The Jewish Pioneers of Douglas

On the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, a cemetery commemorates the region’s Jewish pioneers.

An old Jewish cemetery in southeastern Arizona is coming to life through civic engagement.

At the beginning of World War I, several hundred Jews are said to have lived in Douglas, a border town on the U.S.-Mexican border in southeastern Arizona. Today, they are commemorated by a cemetery that has been restored thanks to the commitment of a Protestant university decan and Jewish patrons.
