Peace through deterrence, that was the Cold War. The USA threatened, among other things, with Titan II intercontinental nuclear missiles. Fortunately, they were never used. In a museum in Arizona, you can see the last of the missile stations.

One of the museum guides, Dave Harutunian, served as a young soldier in one of the missile stations. He says that after the Cold War, all the other Titan II nuclear missiles were scrapped. The same was done with the Soviet missiles, most of which were stationed in Ukraine. One of them could also be seen in a museum there before the war.
